I am not an expert but I believe this is a Warren Knight surveying rod. I compared all the details to another one and they appear to be similar. It is missing the metal Warren Knight stamp on the back of the transit. Please let me know if you know more about this item. Fully extended the pole measures 8' ft 4" inches from tip to tip and fully retracted it is about 52.5" inches long and the pole is 1-1/4" diameter. I think this is a vintage David White Instruments surveyor's wooden Grade Rod. I am not sure of the maker because I could not find a label. I think the big numbers on the back were put on by the last owner. The grade rod is calibrated in inches. Is 9.5 feet tall and was used on a farm. Construction surveyors use tents of a foot instead of inches. I do not know how old it is but I think it is vintage because it is made of wood. Up for sale is a used Crain surveying rod. It extends up to 8' It shows signs of use and wear but still works fine. The leveling bubble is intact and functions properly. The slide and lock function works fine as well.
