Vintage W. & L.E. Gurley Surveyors Transit, Scope With Case, Box. I don't know much about the item. I can see through the scope and can focus. The leveling feet all move freely. Up for sale what looks to be a rather rare surveying spotting scope by Shimadzu Seisakuso LTD.Tag on wood box indicates is No.103. This is my personal. One owner instrument that I bought in 1979 new. I am the only one who has used it and it is in excellent condition. The instruction booklet and other paperwork comes with the instrument. It(and an HP 3805 distance meter) was the faithful foundation of my surveying business(Engineering Field Services) for 10 years until the digital total stations became affordable. This instrument has been stored in a low humidity environmentt for the last 25 years. I still use it once in a while. I paid $2600 for it in 1979.

I don't know anything about these instruments. But I was able to ascertain that it is an Engineer's Transit, and that it was made in 1948. Condition looks excellent to me. Everything appears to be functioning normally. All knobs turn freely. The compass works, the telescope focuses smoothly, and the image appears bright and sharp. The wood box is intact, with no cracks, but one of the latches is missing, and there is no key. There are some accessories included. And are shown in the photos. U.S. BIDDERS ONLY. The optical plumb works well. All of the lenses are in good clean condition without flaws. The light works and the battery is good. No battery charger is included. It comes in the case with rain coat. The plumb bob that looks like it was never used, and the adjustment kit. There is some damage to the side where the lietz badge is. It does affect the usability of this item. I do not know if it was dropped or someone closed the case with something in that spot. I cannot speculate that. Very nice old David White wye level. Based on the serial number. It was built in 1936. Based on the factory engraving, it, at one time, belonged to the City of Oshkosh. It appears to have been either have been very well taken care of and used very little, or(as I believe) professionally restored at some point. It is very clean, the optics and crosshairs are very good and crisp. It appears to be fully operational but I have not tested it. The horizontal motion lock and fine motion knob work fine. The leveling screws all work fine. Really a nice piece. The scope is 18" long and the unit is about 8 1/2" tall and weighs just short of 11 pounds. The instrument also comes with original brass lens cap and sunshade. It also comes in the original wood box with leather strap handle. The box ... moremeasures about 20" x 7" x 10" and weighs 8 pounds. The box has some scratches, scrapes and small dings but is solid. I bought it a while back from a retired concrete contractor who was going to take it to an auction. I offered him a fair price for two instruments and now want to sell this one.
