I've posted lots of pics so you can see there's almost no wear. I bought these about 10 years ago when I was scheduled for a total knee replacement. I wanted the lighter weight and I wanted pole gaffs because the thought of having tree gaffs stuck and while trying to "unstick" them, pull my new knee out of the bone just creeped me out. Anyhow, it didn't happen and while recovering in the hospital I bought a tracked lift and found I didn't need to climb anymore.

These are the standard pads on Buckingham. Klein, and similar to Bashlin#130D. These replacement leather pads are well made and economical. These pads show signs of wear but are operational. These are perfect for someone looking to get started and not looking to break the bank just as yet.

Up for auction are a pair of vintage M. Klein and Sons climbing spikes. One of the straps is missing as in the pictures. From what I can tell they are stamped 16 1/2 M.Klein& Sons 8-7. Up for auction is a vintage collection of lineman gear. It consists of a Bell System belt made by Klein-Buhrke. There is also a climbing strap made by by Klein tools. There are two climbing spikes. Upon close inspection I see they are made by different makers, but they are essentially the same, and are the same size. One is made by W.H. This is a set of lineman's equipment. The belt and harness has a Bashlin Grove City Penna Tested on the metal. The wide belt itself needs a some stitching on back leather. It looks like they shorten 21/2" Spikes are 1 3/4" long on inner measurement& 3 inches end to point. They are used with light surface rust. Some wear on leather, straps look good. For sale is a pair of Klein and Sons vintage tree or telephone pole climbing gaffe spikes. The material is iron and leather. I can see the loco. M. Klein and sons on the gaffe itself. I know the company is about 150 years old and is in Illinois. There is rust on the metal and the leather is showing its age. On one of the straps, a small leather part is missing. For sale is a lot consisting of utility pole or tree climbing gear. The spikes have a few different markings on them. The leather is stamped"F.H. Hall Linemen's Supply. Grove City, PA. Which is probably the retailer where they were purchased. The shaft by the spike says" Mine Safety Appliances Co. Pitteburgh, PA. MSA-Brooks Climber" The leather looks to be in good shape with no holes. Tears, cracks or rips. The spikes are extra sharp with no sign of filing or any gouges. The green and white saddle harness belt looks like it hasn't ever been used and is marked" Niemeyer Corp. Newton Sq. PA. 120 Small. There is a very faint mark beside it that reads"Apr 1988. The leather is in great shape with no cracks. Rips, or tears and everything looks like new. The leather ... morebelt in the last picture has the canvas belt that goes around the tree. The canvas belt has no marks on it. But the leather is marked"Belt. LC-23-E Size:20 R.H. Burke Co. 01-H-1771-63 B-259" It appears to be in bad condition at first glance. But after looking at it closer, it looks like it hasn't ever been worn because there are no marks or stress cracks in the belt where a buckle would have been bearing down on the leather. It just looks like it has been in storage or in someone's closet for a long time. But the leather could be cleaned up and would be in great shape. There are no holes, tears, or rips anywhere in the leather or canvas. I have no idea if it is safe to climb with these or not. I put them on one time and went outside to climb a tree. You are bidding on a pair of very old Bell Telephone Systems very heavy cast iron pole or tree climbing spikes with leather straps and felt cushioning that I believe are circa 1930-1940's vintange. The spikes are marked Bell System I-47 Buckingham Mfg. 17 in. They also are marked WF20833. They have heavy leather pads with felt lining which rest against your leg and are complete with the leather straps to strap them to your leg. Up for bid is a set of Bashlin 140-DS climbing gaffs. Spikes. These were used for a utility on the pole lines. The Gaffs measure 1.5 inches from the point, to where it would stop when it is in a pole. They are used but not abused and in pretty good condition, so they have a lot more climbing to do. These climbing spikes are in good used condition with normal signs of use. Cosmetically there are scuffs. Scratches, and surface rust, but it does not seem to effect the integrity of the item. They measure 17 inches from the top of the legging to the bottom of the spike. The boot trough ranges from 4.5 inches at the top to 3 inches at the base.
