Brass& Wood(Oak? Surveyor's Tripod 3 1/2 by 8 with legs 5 feet or 60"s tall There are no makers marks left on this tripod. It appears to be made by David White after looking on e-bay at others of it's kind(a real close look may show a small part of a red decal) It was used on a Sokkisha transit so it may even be a Keuffel& Esser. I don't know. The only markings that are left on it are the serial number of 74867 and the thread size stamped on the head of 8 3/12 and the numbers on the ground spikes of 298-3. The thread cap appears to have been replaced as it appeared to be made of plastic but it could be bakelite which might make it original. I wish I could give you more but if you know about these things you should be able to identify it's maker with all of the ... morepictures I posted. This is a neat item. It is made of cardboard measures 3 1/4" across x 1 1/2" deep. It is all in good shape with the exception of a small amount of the label on the top missing. But it is a very small amount. This was made by the Chicago Steel Tape Company, Chicago, Illinois, has made in the U.S.A. under the company name. On the top it has directions for applying. Vintage Sunart Wooden Tripod. Rochester, NY, Special, No 1 This is a great vintage tripod. An amazing addition to your collection or to actually put to use. It is a very lightweight tripod that collapses. It is not as universally adjustable as todays high tech tripods, but then they don't have the charm of this one. The legs pull out and screws tighten the legs to the correct height. The leg height is the only place where you tighten the position the spread of the legs is totally freeform. It was manufactured Sunart Photo Co. Fully extended it is about 58 inches. There are metal spikes in the feet. It collapses to about 30 inches by less than 3 inches.
