Up for Sale is a Portable Bench top Clean Room/ Flow Hood I designed and built this for hard drive data recovery after I lost a hard drive due to read/ write head failure. The price quotes I got for data recovery were astronomical. So. I looked into DIY options, but ran into a roadblock because I needed a clean room or portable flow hood. After ascertaining that the cost of purchasing one was likewise excessively high. I decided to build one myself. As a starting point I bought a Stackhouse Point One ULPA PTU-100 filter. You can see it for sale here on eBay for $145 plus shipping http:www.ebay.com/itm/like/321294824893?lpid=82) I then designed my flow hood to fit the PTU-100 filter. The design was kept as simple and inexpensive as possible. I used polycarbonate(also known as Lexan) as my material ... moreof choice for most of the build allowing clear viewing from multiple angles. The polycarbonate pieces are all"welded" together with special polycarbonate cement. I wanted to keep air flow generation simple as well. So. I opted to design the flow hood to be able to use the exhaust of my vacuum cleaner to power it. I used a Eureka Mighty Mite. But most any vacuum or shop vac that has an exhaust that can be directed through a hose should work. Just be very mindful that this is for a"Clean" room environment.so. The vacuum used should either be new or be thoroughly cleaned out, have a brand new filter installed, and have the hose washed out in both directions multiple times until only crystal clear water flows out of it. Then it should be run exhausting out the hose until the hose is completely dry. The hose is inserted into the round opening at the top of the unit where the air flow is dissipated through a series of holes before passing through the ULPA filter. The air flows through the filter downward into the flow hood. Which is closed on 3 sides. The positive air pressure flows gently out the front curtain. Which is just a vinyl curtain of overlapping pieces to allow access as needed by the technician.
