Up for auction is this very nice Detectron Geiger Counter. Model DG-7. This is a 1950's vintage radiation detector. This unit is untested and the working condition is unknown. The electronics are clean and complete, there is a geiger tube in the probe, and it appears to be intact. There is a some amount of rust on the case, see the pictures. Overall in decent condition for it's age. It also includes a set of vintage"B" Batteries, 2-45 Volt and 1-15 Volt. Untitled Document This sale is for a piece of plastic scintillation material that measures approximately 4" x 1 1/4" x 1 1/4" 100mm x 32mm x 32mm) and weighs around 110 grams. These were cut from a large piece of the material that the government was using at a National Lab. I have been told that the material is BC 408(although I can not confirm this) and as you can see in the photo. It responds to UV light. Each 1 1/4" opposite end is water clear. These were cut at a commercial plastics fabrication plant and the long sides have marks from the saw blade. The water clear ends have one end that is smooth and free from marks and the other end has some scuffs/scratches from sliding on the cutting table. This is a working. Fully functional unit. It doesn't measure low-level or background radiation- just the kind of radiation you'd be worried about after a nuclear blast. I inserted the 3 type C batteries it needs and it fired right up and successfully went through it's self-test. I did note and took a photo of how much the top battery of the three sticks up that has to be pushed down with the lid in order to make proper contact. Don't be rough with it and it will click right in. There's some accessories included and a laminated instruction card- very helpful. The box is in rough shape, what with water stains all over it, but the inside is fine and the unit is waterproof anyway, according to hubby. VICTOREEN MODEL 490 THYACIII SERIAL 2239 WITH PROBE This unit was battery tested and seems to respond as it should; however. Battery contacts are corroded and I had to wiggle the batteries a little to make contact and make the meter respond. I don't have any radioactive material to test further. Cosmetics look fair with permanent marker writing and sticker residue and the knobs are missing. I don't know what model probe this is. Tested to the best of our abilities. This listing is for TWO(2) halogen-quenched alpha. Beta and gamma radiation counter Geiger tubes. ~ 3 cm long, 9mm diameter mica front window. With the addition of a cadmium foil you can detect neutron radiation. These tubes work great and have been in use for approx. 3 months only.
