I have for sale a lot of 18 old civil defense dosimeters. 17 of them are manufactured by Industrial Electronics and 1 is manufactured by Jordan Electronics. These are extras that have been sitting in my closet for a while. I do not need any more of them so to Ebay they go! I tested the first few that I pulled out of the box and they worked fine. This is a vintage Precision Radiation Instruments Model 111B scintillator. It has seen very little use and condition of all chrome pieces is very nice. It has some corrosion on the batteries inside the battery case. I am not an expert on these so please ask any questions. I noticed that the arm does move when the probe portion is moved. This Victoreen Model 290 is in almost mint condition. These were manufactured in the early 1990's. So it is quite a modern geiger counter. Serial Number is 2282. This instrument does not come with a probe, but will accommodate any probe with an NHV connector. It comes calibrated for all Victoreen probes, which are selected by an internal rotary switch. A manual for the instrument comes on disc.

Food, water, and property but in case of an event they will be saturated and useless. You should have both one for high sensitivity for food and water and one that will not saturate and provide you with accurate reading for life threatening situations so you know when- to evacuate and which direction to go to safety. Anything above 5-10 Roentgins would be cause to seek shelter as soon as possible and higher readings would be way more urgent. A normal Geiger counter or scintillation instrument would probably be saturated and useless under the conditions that would be present after a nuclear event. This is my choice ... morefor an affordable late model super wide range instrument I would not trust one of those old civil defense instruments to function properly when it- comes to life or death situations. This is a simple to operate instrument with two ranges 0-1.000 mR/hr and 0-1,000 R/hr with an easy to read logarithmic dial and no zero adjust to fiddle with it is- Auto zeroing just turn it to battery to check status select range and allow 15-20 seconds to auto zero and it is ready to start detection. This instrument along with mine was checked on an X-RAY calibration stand at a local university and found to be better than factory +- 10% recommendations. On low range mR/hr is sensitive enough to indicate normal background radiation and tested with a natural uranium sample as shown in photos 6/7 you can see the sample is showing 7 mR/hr combined BETA GAMMA at the window that has a closable BETA shield. This is a Bicron Scintillation detector with its external case intact free from dents or signs of physical abuse. It has a ground lug which the green wire is attached to and a coaxial connector(maybe a LEMO) There is a label that says the case is at positive potential so it probably wants to be sleeved in an insulating jacket. I have no technical info on this item. I presume that if you are looking at it you have an idea how to use it.
