I believe this scintillator is neutron sensitive. It has become slightly yellowed, though nothing like NaI(Tl) there is mottling due to separation perhaps with the exit window and the cleavage planes are obvious. It and it's stainless steel housing have been in a bucket of debris covered by water from the last snowstorm and has been outside in that same bucket for at least 4 years. This is a well-used and well-loved Ortec HPGe detector that I refurbished to meet my gamma spectroscopy needs. I've now upgraded to a larger detector and am selling this one. But it is very capable as the diverse spectra in my photo gallery illustrate. When the CD V-715 was first produced(in 1961 or 1962) The government disposed of its entire inventory of CD V-710s and roughly 40% of its CD V-720s. Hoffman"CountMaster" Geiger Counter. I know nothing about this other than it is in what appears to me in very nice condition. There are no dents. The paint is nice, all of the controls and dials seem to work well. It does have a name written on the back(see Picture) from what I am guessing to be the previous owner. This is a really neat piece of equipment.

It has been calibrated with the check source from a CDV 700 6B(not included) While is can be used to make a rough estimate it is advised that you have it calibrated professionally if you intend to make precise radiation measurements. This is a 1950s vintage Geiger counter made by PRI in Los Angeles. Many such counters were sold to prospectors hoping to get rich during the uranium rush of the 1950's. This one includes the headphone. Strap, and a hang tag. In addition there is a tag I put on it a few years ago when I was doing testing and repair on similar units. This one has two main problems: one of the D cell holders is corroded, and the 1B85 Geiger tube is crushed(a common problem) HOWEVER-when I connected appropriate power and borrowed a good 1B85, the unit functioned. SO, if you have a spare 1B85 and are technically minded you could probably get it working. Otherwise it displays nicely along other prospecting and uranium rush memorabilia. This cool vintage device appears to work perfectly. I was able to calibrate each pen to zero. The pin It includes the six pens in the picture and the manual. I noticed that when the pen is pressed down during calibration. The pin sometimes gets a little"sticky" and pops back up after a couple of seconds. A couple of times I had to grab the pin with my fingernails and pull it up. I've inspected inside the case and don't see a cause other than the device has been sitting for some time and the pin may need a little lubricant to slide more easily. I'll leave that to the experts. One more thing. I have no way to actually check the calibration on these pens so I have not idea if they read radiation correctly or not. What a great find. This is a Rare 1950s Civil Defense Dept Radiological Demonstrator Kit Case. Used back in the 50s and 60s to show students how to detect radiation using different devices. Included with the case is a new old stock Radiological Dosimeter. A Dosimeter charger, 1 radiac detector sealed in its package, 1 Radiation Geiger Counter CDV-457 which does have some minor paint wear and a bunch of manuals and literature. The internals look very clean. Has some minor wear on the outside of the box. Has the wand with good condition wire. Has a damaged civil defense sticker. But an old Elgin watch face with radium numbers is, and reads a fairly consist ent 300 CPM at two i nches a way. Normal 0 14 Up for sale is an 3”x3” NaI(Tl) BICRON gamma scintillation detector coupled with a standard 14-pin tube socket with BNC connector. As you can see from the images this detector works well for counting applications. I have connected it. By an ORTEC SCA, to an universal counter and the background conting are about 1000 per second, when operating at 950 V! I can not say just as well on its spectroscopic capabilities because. Despite some attempts, I was not be able to capture a good gamma- spectrum. This is probably due to the fact that the instrument, as shown in one of the images, has suffered a collision. Therefore. It measures the electrostatic field generated by people and machinery and the built in H3 beta source may be for neutralizing such. It looks like a 50's SF B movie Ray Gun. One year Warranty! Try to avoid non-restored meters unless you collect or intend to have them rebuilt. 2013 batteries can easily burn out 50+yo components and it happens every day! I have a pile of them here. Old meters tend to stop working when left in the on position. Used in extreme heat or cold, or after hard use. 2 Victoreen Model CDV-715 Geiger Counters Plus Accessories Up for bid are 2 Victoreen Model CDV-715 Geiger Counters. A CDV-750 Charger, 5 CD V-742 Dosimeters, 2 carrying straps, a headphone, instruction and maintenance manuals and 2 manuals published by FEMA(see photos) I recently obtained these items. Which came in an original box marked as a CD V-777 radiation detection set. It appears to me that the“set” originally included a model CD V-700. But that Geiger counter was not included with the other items. The instruction manuals do include a copy of the instruction and maintenance manual for the 700. However. I am no expert on the subject of Geiger counters. But both of these units appear to be lightly used and good overall condition. I have utilized the“circuit check” both of the units and ... morereceived positive readings. However one unit is more difficult to adjust to zero on the meter.
