Here is the best Geiger counter on the market in a kit with the two best probes on the market. They have been sitting in an emergency response kit for a long time. Unused since the crystal in the 44-10 detector was changed. This makes all items in the kit functionally new. Included in the sale is a piece of crystalline pitchblende which makes a great alpha/beta/gamma check source. The CPM and mR/hour scale is the standard for emergency response use, and allows for accurate counts and real time dosimeter use when adjusted to a single-isotope source. This counter looks new on the outside. It is nearly flawless, please see the pictures. This set is available for less than half the price of JUST a new 44-10 probe. The 44-9 probe responds as expected across the spectrum. Switching between the two ... moreprobes requires no voltage adjustment. The gigantic magnetically/RF shielded 44-10 2x2 inch gamma scintillation probe also functions like new; the crystal was replaced recently and it tests to factory specifications. There is no better probe for portable gamma detection or even gamma spectrometry. And it is an industry standard(with an institutional retail price as well) which is rarely available to us common folk. There is no better survey and detection kit available, hands down. Alpha detection is made easy with the 44-9 probe. I call all pancake probes with this Geiger Muller tube"44-9" regardless of brand, even though that refers to the Ludlum brand. This really is the Ludlum 44-9, and it sets the standard for all pancake probes. This entire package costs less than the 44-10 probe new. These will be sold as is no returns for parts or repair. They show heavy signs of wear from use. Upon testing I had some difficulty zeroing them out. On various settings the needle on the meters will wander to the right until it hits the end. Also one of them is missing a knob. And one of them won't pass the circuit check. Not sure if something is wrong with these, or if they need to be recalibrated. Not to put too fine a point on it. But anybody offering a sixty year-old electronic instrument as working"as found" is pulling your leg. If by chance it is in working order(and it isn't) the batteries probably haven't been manufactured since the Kennedy Administration. This blast from the past is no exception, but that doesn't mean that it can't be restored to working condition with a little effort. As PRI scintillators go. This one is in extremely good condition. There is no damage due to leaking batteries and the circuit boards are in great shape. The chrome plating and silver grey hammertone finish is like new, with no visible corrosion. All switches, dials, decals and the meter are cosmetically in great shape. The 6199 photomultiplier tube is intact, although ... morethe scintillation crystal is missing, as is the"poker chip" radium check source disc. The 45 volt and 22-1/2 volt batteries that powered the instrument haven't been made in decades. If you just want this as a relic of the Cold War, that's no problem, it already looks like new. If you wish to restore it to operating condition, read on. About ten years ago. Allan Goshy manufactured a battery replacement module that generated all the various voltages needed to operate most of the PRI scintillation detectors. Although no longer produced, I ordered and still have several of these sitting on a shelf, unused. If you purchase this unit and desire to restore it to operation, I will make available one of the battery replacement modules as well as a replacement scintillation crystal and one radium 226 calibration"poker chip" at a fair package price. If you do not wish to take me up on the offer, I will list all my spare PRI parts for auction on eBay shortly thereafter.

This is an extremely precise potentiometer; so precise that the dial can be easily turned to any one of literally a thousand settings, so you can simply record the voltage with and or all of your probes and save a lot of time by turning the dial to the proper setting before plugging your probe in instead of tapering voltage. Scintillation probes are particularly voltage dependent, and the small potentiometers on handhelds don't accommodate this. It can be used with a limitless number of probes! A digital display shows up to 999,999 counts. Estate find. Vintage Geiger counter. I assume these are the original Burgess batteries. There is no voltage left in them. But I did test the A battery circuit(red& black wires) with a new 1.5v battery and the meter read the voltage. I did not test beyond this because I do not have suitable 45/22.5v batteries or a substitute power supply. A power supply could be easily built for this however. It appears to require 1.5v A heater voltage, 1.5v B heater voltage, and 135v and 67.5v plate/screen voltages. Tubes are five 1S5's, a 3S4, a 1654, and the GM tube. The GM tube appears intact with no broken glass inside. Front panel adjustments turn freely. The only info I could find on the web stated: The Model RS-3 was a portable beta gamma count rate survey meter offered in 1948. It had a GM ... moretube in an external probe. The unit weighed 12 lbs. This iconic CDV-715 ion chamber radiological survey meter was the most common type used in bomb shelters. This high-dosage meter was essentially designed to tell you if it was safe to come out of hiding after a nuclear bomb had been detonated; if you put this thing outside and the meter moved.go back inside and wait some more. As WWIII hasn't yet occurred and I lack any sort of calibration source. I have no idea if this particular meter works. The calibration sticker on the side says it was last calibrated in Nebraska in 1974, so probably safe to assume it's in need of a tune-up. That said. It's an awesome conversation piece or prop even if you never get to use it as it was designed.

This is a Lithium Iodide NEUTRON or SOFT GAMMA scintillator assembly. It is very small and operates at 500 to 1250V. The cesium iodide crystal was salvaged from a neutronrae pager type detector module. As it is supplied. It will detect soft gamma and x-rays as well as neutrons very efficiently. This is even quite desirable for finding actinides like plutonium or americium. If the goal is neutron detection you should encase the the detector crystal(metal part on the end) with a minimum of 1/2 inch of lead. The PMT unit is several orders of magnitude more sensitive than the original PIN photo diode was. The bias string is set at 100Meg so it will work with most common Geiger counters. I left the bias string in component form to allow you to use your own resistance values if using this probe ... morefor special purposes. It is a metal cylinder 1.8” long by 1” in diameter with a magnifying lens. On the bottom there is an inscription Berlin 1957(see photo) It is all information as I know about. The phosphor still works. If you look inside you will see a lot of sparks. I had to spend about 5 minutes in a dark room to see flashes. Condition is very good for device from last century. Lets start with the well probe: This is a sealed PMT/crystal enclosed in a hermetically sealed stainless steel enclosure. With a steel and thin lead shield collimator which serves to even out the response curve of the crystal detector. The thinnest part of the crystal extends all the way up to the top of the probe walls, and rather than being one thick piece of sodium iodide, there is a dip in it that is shaped like a well; it surrounds a specimen to pick up the gamma radiation from all directions. There is a also a thicker portion of the detector crystal below the well, surrounded by less lead, which makes it great for use as a regular gamma scintillation probe. The exact length of the crystal can be determined by using a pin tip gamma source. it actually extends to nearly an inch below the ... moretop of the brand sticker seen in the pictures. This is an experimenters dream kit. The preamp circuit board is key to user-controlled spectrography, although that is simply included for more advanced users or adventuresome newbies who can take an HV jolt like a champ. Phase shift keying over a wide spectrum allows for thousands of channels via a simple microphone jack. Tapping the signal from the pre amp is a great way to get a viable spectrometer modulation control. While it doesn't sound all that important, a pre-amp will make or break an experiment! This model 2240I Digital Survey Meter is in excellent condition. This is very similar to the 2241. But also has the internal detector. Comes with the 44-9 GM pancake probe and a Th-232 source in a Ludlum source holder on the side. There is no scaler function on the 2240I. Meter is shown responding to it's own check source. 2 Vintage Victoreen radiological survey meters: one CDV-715. And one CDV-717. The units are in good cosmetic condition externally and internally but I wasn't able to get to zero or do the circuit check. Being very clean inside. Maybe they are repairable, or they can be a good source of parts to repair other similar equipment. There are some paint nicks and a few scuffs but they still look great for a display of the cold war times. Here is the great 1954 Precision Special"Scintillator" Model 117 B Radiation detector. It appears to be in good condition for the age with the exception of some discoloration on the one knob under the glass meter. It does need a good and proper cleaning. It does appear that the carrying strap is missing. Several of the factory batteries are still inside. There is some corrosion on one of the battery terminal posts. It is being sold as untested.
